How do you find the matching colors?

We convert each brand's published color values into the standard color space that paint labs use, then measure the distance between your color and every color the other brands make. The closest colors win. The math weighs lightness, warmth, and depth the way human eyes actually perceive them.

Is a matched color the same paint?

No. Every brand mixes its own bases and pigments, so two colors that look the same on screen can behave a little differently on a wall, especially in changing daylight. The ratings describe how close the colors are digitally. Always confirm your finalist with a physical sample.

Can my paint store mix another brand's color?

Accepted Answer

Most paint stores can color match a competitor's color from its code or a physical chip. Some painters prefer an official catalog color instead, which is exactly what this tool finds. Either way, sample the result before committing to gallons.

Sherwin-Williams, Benjamin Moore, Behr, Farrow & Ball, PPG, and Valspar, more than 15,000 colors in total. We plan to add more brands over time.

What does LRV mean?

LRV stands for Light Reflectance Value, a 0 to 100 scale of how much light a color bounces back. A higher number reads brighter on the wall. Comparing LRV between a color and its match is a quick way to check they will feel equally light in your room.
